Monogastric Research Assistant

Contract types Full time, 15-18 month contract
Location Burford, ON

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management of all aspects of research study execution, including training staff, scheduling of study events, overseeing day-to-day data collection, and assisting in study activities as needed;
  • Ensuring that all processes are executed as per protocol and facility SOP;
  • Knowledge and familiarity working with broiler chickens, laying hens, nursery pig & grow/finish hogs;
  • Coordinating ancillary study processes, (feed manufacture, sample collection handling, facility cleaning/disinfection and setup, compilation and audit of data);
  • Supervise and direct species technicians as needed;
  • Interact with study investigators as needed, in the design and setup of experiments;
  • Communicate to key stakeholders involved in the study on key events and issues, including QC/QA;
  • Work with staff to review and upgrade facility SOPs as needed and create new SOP’s where required;
  • Manage a project plan, delegate and manage resources as required.

PREFERRED HIRING CRITERIA:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science (MSc an asset) in an area of animal nutrition or related science;
  • Knowledge and work experience in research execution involving livestock species or significant experience in technical support related to livestock production or animal health management considered an asset;
  • A solid understanding of the standards of Good Clinical Practice and Good Laboratory Practice as delineated in the guidances of FDA, and VICH;
  • Understanding of the standards of Animal Care required for Animal Research Facilities ;
  • Proven ability to motivate and supervise others;
  • Strong Microsoft Office ability;
  • Fluent communication ability in oral and written English (French communication an asset).
