One of the tools available to poultry farmers to manage heat stress is the use of cooling pads and sprinklers. Below are some tips to help with maintaining these pieces of equipment in your barn.

Ensure water lines are clean and flushed. Try running a hydrogen peroxide-based water line cleaner through the cooling pad. It can help prevent build up and blockage.

After you clean your cooling pad and/or sprinkler system, flush the water line to remove all hydrogen peroxide products.

For cooling pads, rinse both sides as well as inside and outside of the pad, removing all of the debris and dust.

Clean out the filter located in the water line above the recirculation tank before and after the cleaning process.

Adding a tarp or covering system to the cooling pad during times that it is not in use can increase the life span of your investment.
